=Friday 6/1/12=
Late Work: The last day to turn in late work is Monday, 6/4/12. I will not accept/grade late work after Monday.

Final Project: Semester 2 TIMELINE (due next week Thursday end of class- DO NOT PLAN ON TURNING THIS IN LATE!!! SCHOOL IS ENDING! You will have this Friday, Monday, Tuesday (halfperiod), and Thursday to work on this. More than enough in-class time!)

What You Are Doing-
You pick seven major events that interest you. The events are of your choosing.
These seven events are your focus events. They need to have a picture and a caption describing the event.

Then you fill out the rest of the timeline with 15 other events that put your seven major events in context. You only need to accurately place, date, and have some reason or relevance for these other 15 dates.

How the final timeline looks is up to you.

This is a three stage process

  1. List your seven major events with dates and have me check them off.
  2. Make a rough draft on binder paper. Have this signed off on.
  3. Make a final draft on printer paper (can be two sided or two pieces of printer paper) or on poster paper. Making your drawings and handwriting small and neat will really help for this. (I will try to provide as much poster paper as I can secure)

Some Examples (sort of- remember yours will have 7 events with pictures and a paragraph surrounded by 11-15 other dates for context) but you can do a swirl or multi-lined timeline like in the examples:

Turn in Laptops beginning of period

"You are Galileo"
Write a letter in your defense as if you were Galileo.

Friday 5/25/12

Galileo and The Catholic Church

Remember this conflict is about POWER.

Ideas:

For the letter, maybe look at it from a different perspective:

If you sympathize with Galileo, write from the Catholic Church’s perspective.

Or you can concentrate on linking Galileo’s strong Catholic belief with his science.

For the picture, maybe you can merge the Trial of Galileo with Galileo studying the stars

or show Galileo’s life after the trial.

These are just some suggestions, the choices are endless!

BE CREATIVE AND USE WHAT YOU’VE LEARNED!!!

Part 2: Project Abstract (Wednesday)
You are creating an abstract (approx. 100 words) for a project about one scientific invention or object from the Scientific Revolution. An abstract is a summary of what you want to do and how you are going to do it.

What you’re doing:
  1. Write an abstract (a summary of what you want to do and how you are going to do it).
  2. Show your abstract along with your research notes to Ms. Bedford or myself for approval.
  3. Third, once you have your abstract approved you are ready to start your project.
---
Abstract Example:
“The Tony Hawk Learning Project”
Authors: Lauren Silberman and Elisabeth (Betty) Hayes (Mentor), Curriculum & Instruction

The study is to show how even a “sport” video game can incorporate many types of learning, to call attention to what might be overlooked as significant forms of learning, and to understand and take advantage of the opportunities video games afford as more deliberate learning environments. The aspects explored are the skills and techniques required to be successful in the game, the environment that skaters skate in, the personal vs. group identity that is shown through the general appearance of the skater, and the values and icons that the game teaches players. We are finding that sport video games support learning; we hope to find how one learns about oneself as a learner from playing.
